Setting goals can help you and your loved one’s heart-health journey

Setting goals can be a good way to help your loved one to stick to heart-healthy changes.

Goal setting is a process of creating a plan to start and maintain heart-healthy habits. You can play an important role in creating a supportive environment for your loved one’s goals and recovery.

Understanding what they would like to achieve is key. Give them time and support as they work towards their heart-health goals. From managing their medicines better, choosing heart-healthy foods, or being physically active, knowing their goals can help you give more meaningful support. Don’t forget to help them celebrate all their achievements, no matter how small.

It is a good idea to also join in on the goal setting and think about what you would like to achieve. Being a carer also requires caring for yourself. Take a moment to think about your own goals and make sure you're looking after both yourself and your loved one.

Once you’ve set your own goals, try working together towards them. Being part of each other's goals can make the journey towards health more enjoyable.
