Financial wellbeing as a carer

Here are some support services when you’re caring for someone living with heart disease

It’s common for people who have had a heart event or diagnosis, and their families, to worry about money. The cost of appointments and medicines can add up. There are also the indirect costs of things like having to take time off work and travel costs to attend appointments.

Support services

You can help your loved one to make sure they’re getting all the financial support they’re entitled to. Ask them to check if they’re eligible for any Centrelink benefits.

As a carer, you may be entitled to a range of payments and subsidies such as:

For more information about these payments, visit Services Australia or call 132 717.

If you, or the person you’re caring for, holds a current and eligible concession card from Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, or a senior’s card, you may be able to get additional discounts, including cheaper medicines.

You may also be able to access carer respite funding from your state or territory. Visit Carer Gateway for more information.
