Understanding the effects of alcohol on your heart

Research shows that drinking alcohol does not have any heart health benefits. It can even harm your heart.

Alcohol increases your risk of heart disease, affects your sleep and concentration and can make you feel anxious or depressed.

There is no recommended safe amount of alcohol when it comes to looking after your heart health, and alcohol is not recommended as part of heart-healthy eating.

If you don’t drink alcohol, don’t start.

If you do drink alcohol, finding ways to cut back will help to improve your heart health and overall wellbeing. The less you drink, the better – for your heart, mind and wallet.
